Delhi assembly elections 2025: As turnout dips, all eyes on Saturday score; votes cast lowest since 2008

India news today: More than 60.42% of Delhi's 1.56 crore voters participated in Wednesday's election which decided the outcomes for three major political leaders and 699 Delhi election candidates seeking seats in the 70-member assembly.

The voter turnout 2024 reached its lowest recorded level since 57.8% of eligible voters participated in 2008. The 2013 elections saw 66% voter participation which reached 67.5% in the 2015 elections establishing a new record.

The 2020 elections experienced a turnout of 62.8% which was five percentage points lower than previous figures. The current election turnout has increased by 1.8 percentage points compared to the 58.6% voter participation in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which took place during May's peak summer season.

The Election Commission updates have announced that the turnout figures are provisional and will be revised in the next two days.

Updated VTR data will appear on the VTR APP continuously from 7pm whenever ROs provide new information from their polling station returns.

Chandak pointed out that occasionally polling process in Delhi parties do not deliver their required documents on election day which results in turnout figures being updated after reviewing statutory documents and assessing if a repoll is necessary.

The disappointing number of voters casting ballots contradicted the widespread belief that the city's informed electorate serves as a model for the rest of the nation. The senior Delhi assembly elections 2025 official acknowledged the turnout was lower than anticipated but advised waiting until final turnout numbers are available to determine the reasons. The election officials acknowledged that voter turnout fell below expectations but said it was premature to investigate potential reasons.
